Who are the Wizards Concillium?

Live the arcane power fantasy.

Learn magic. Sling spells. Gather arcane knowledge. Write a tome. Cast your enemies down with a single incantation. Become the most dangerous being on the battlefield. Be surprised when the next enemy doesn’t go down in a single hit. Panic. Run away. Scream (optional). Gain the wisdom that you should have listened to your master and spent more time doing cardio.

Being a Wizard is a roller coaster that takes you from library to battlefield and back again, suddenly and without warning. Seeking applicants that are adaptable, (somewhat) academic, survivable, and ideally flame retardant.

The Scholarly Dress Mandate (Kit look)

  • Primary Hue: Shimmering amethysts and deep violets.

  • Essential Raiment: Long, flowing robes that trail with the weight of one’s accumulated knowledge.

“Pray, ensure your garments are of a sufficiently voluminous cut; one cannot hope to channel the fundamental forces of the universe while constricted by the crude, utilitarian stitching of a common labourer.”

Essential Kit Suggestions

  • A purple robe
  • A large spellbook
  • A wizard hat

Faction History

The Wizards Concillium has a long and rich history, each century marked by incredible arcane discoveries and developments. The nation is approximately 9000 years old, with the chancellor as the head of state, supported by a council consisting of the deans of the great colleges.

Chancellors and deans typically lead for a century or two, and eventually become bored and retire. One notable exception is the first chancellor, the great Nilrem, who one day disappeared and never returned.

One notable arcane development was deployed around a decade ago; The Mana Cannon. The device hangs in the sky, and was intended to cut a path through the Spine mountain range to facilitate trade with other nations. The project was ended prematurely however as it was harming the world-mother, and damaging the very fabric of Orin Rakatha.

In recent years the Wizards Concillium have renewed their presence in the Festival Lands after a long hiatus. A wizard named Sovereign, seen by some as an upstart, joined the Concillium in the pursuit of purple magic and began rapidly recruiting. His department, part of The College of Spatial Communications, now has a trained team of field researchers with an abnormally high survivability rate.

Unlike their colleagues who study in the safety of the towers, these Wizards travel the world solving and creating problems in equal measure.

Faction Beliefs

Wizards are academic by nature, and believe in rationalism, the scientific method, and debate. The Concillium are the sole teachers of magic on Orin Rakatha, and they enforce this monopoly strictly.

The pace of life in the Concillium is calm and relaxed. Contemplation, debate and discussion continue all day and all night, albeit the debaters change as some fall asleep and others awake.

Most wizards respect each other, and with whom wizards debate can be more important than who wins a discussion. It is very rare to see any aggressive or threatening behaviour. Points are scored by winning intellectual debate, not by blasting or squashing your opponent physically.

At the heart of the Concilium are nine colleges of magic; eight devoted to a single element, and one dedicated to purple, the colour of the combined powers of the nation. Each college has a great tower and its own faculty, and believe themselves the most important, although in truth they are all inextricably linked and rely upon one another for wizard society to function. These institutions have stood for thousands of years, and are dedicated to magical theory and experimentation.

Although the wizards hold the reigns of power, most of the population of the Concillium are non-magical. Among them are the Colour Guard, the loyal protectors of the Concillium, and the Sentinels, their elite soldiers.

The non-wizard inhabitants of the nation are typically polite and deferential to the people with the pointed hats. Many live and work comfortably under the protection of the nation and its wizards; they have a good life, and have no wish to rock the boat. Polite nods and bows are seen across the nation, and a nod of the head or tip of the hat is considered wise by almost everybody here.

Faction Friends & Foes

Generally the Wizards Concillium have a positive relationship with other nations; they provide magical training to all regardless of factional disputes. When relationships with other nations break down, or agreements are transgressed, the Concillium makes the progress of other nations’ magical training more challenging.

On rare occasions, other factions have come into direct conflict with the Wizards Concillium. This is usually a result of another faction teaching magic without Concillium approval, and has had dire consequences for the offending parties. In these instances strike teams of powerful wizards and Sentinels have been deployed to assassinate the offenders, and in worst-case scenarios the Concillium has cut other nations off from magic entirely.

Elementals, Golems and creatures of magical construction abound within the nation of the Wizards Concillium, and can sometimes be a nuisance to travellers and traders.
