Who are the Saewulfs?

Bonded by blood, iron and sworn to an unbreakable oath, the Saewulfs
translates as the “Wolves of the Sea!”.
The Saewulfs are a Norse-Dark Age fantasy faction, loosely based on the legendary
“Joms Vikings” mercenary order of skilled Norse warriors who live by a strict “code”
and the mysterious elite “Ulfhednar” wolf-berserkers! The Saewulfs are guided by
their Jarl and follow the old Norse gods to seek out adventure and glory.
A person cannot merely just join the Saewulfs. You have to show in your character some
aspects of the “Nine Noble Virtues”, Courage, Truth, Honour, Fidelity, Discipline, Hospitality,
Self-Reliance, Industriousness and Perseverance, before you are offered to join the Company
by the Jarl. Although combat is the primary requisite, the Saewulfs will happily take
any other player character classes into the faction as they see magic as a gift from
their gods. The Once you are a Saewulf you will have joined one of the best fighting
factions in Orin Rathatha!

Faction History

Forged from the flames of war, now reborn to a life on the sea, the Saewulfs are a highly skilled mercenary “Free-Company” order of Norse warriors, devoted to the Old Gods and ancient traditions. Answering to no rulers, they travel in the majestic “White Fang” Drakenship, sailing the seas and oceans in search of new lands to explore and find adventure and glory!

The word Saewulf means “Wolf of the sea” and they are formed into a fighting company of warriors who swear a blood oath of honor and loyalty to their fellow Saewulfs. They abide by a strict “Code” and the principle of “the strongest rules,” which embody their ancestral Norse way. The Saewulfs’ nation home is a large sea fortress called “Ulfborg.” It is sited in a secret location in one of the three main archipelagos that form “The Isles” in the land of Orin Rakatha.

The Saewulfs were formed by a seasoned Sea Jarl called Steersman Roland Sigurdsson, who has led them through many battles. However, he now serves as a Knight of Orin Rakatha! He has given the title of “Jarl” to his once ship’s captain, Olga Sigurddottier, who is a formidable shield-maiden and a knight herself. Leading alongside her is the mysterious ritualist Kaura, who can see visions and magically speak to the Gods themselves!

These two “She-wolves” will lead and inspire their crew to find their destiny as they venture into the unknown. The Saewulfs not only fight as individual warriors but also form “Shield walls,” a tried-and-tested defensive formation, or the arrow-shaped “Boar’s snout” formation to attack with.

The Saewulfs truly believe that they are the “chosen wolves of the All-father,” the mythical “Ulfhednar” wolf berserker elite warriors. They can take the form of a wolf animal spirit, empowering them with deadly strength that fire and iron cannot harm… But other animal spirits can also be taken by berserkers, such as Bear, Boar, and Raven, with the “Call of the Wild” in them if the old gods so wish.

Faction Beliefs

The Saewulfs are devoted to the old Norse Gods and the gods of nature among the more tribal peoples who inhabit their Archipelago home, “The Isles”.

The four main gods the Saewulfs follow are: “All-father” (Odin), “The Goddess” (Freyja), “The Warrior” (Tyr), and “The Seafarer” (Njord). The protection bind rune on the Saewulf’s faction Sigil represents these four gods. The Saewulfs believe they are the children of these gods, and their destinies are guided by them. They are lawfully good in nature and hold honor, loyalty, trust, respect, and speaking truths as essential values. A “Name” is earned through acts seen by the old gods, emphasizing heroic deeds and protecting the weak as strong values in Saewulf culture.

They do not bow to any rulers and believe martial skill comes from training, hard work, and discipline. Their “Code” keeps them safe. The Saewulfs also do not fear death; they believe in a “Glorious Death,” and if they die a good death, they will be taken to the “Halls of Heroes,” either Valhalla or Sessrumnir.
