The Riches of Mars - Steampunk at Herofest LARP
Currency
The High Martian Council has commissioned specially minted coins to serve as the currency for Mars. These have been created by Reader (a member of the High Council) in Association with the various mining and facilities companies formed by the Council. There are three denominations that have been produced and there is one older Earth coin still in circulation and accepted as common tender:
Sovereigns |
(sometimes called French Sovereigns) – rare and each are worth 10 Guineas. | |
Guineas |
(sometimes called Golden Guineas) – the base currency. | ![]() |
Crowns |
(sometimes called Silver Crowns) – there are four Crowns to a Guinea. | ![]() |
Florins |
(sometimes called Copper Florins) – there are two Florins to a Crown. | ![]() |
Ores
Mars is the source of a number of valuable Ores and this has become the cornerstone of the economy. Each of these valuable ores are critical components for the creation and use of Aether and Aura devices.
Gold |
valued by weight – 1 unit of Gold is ¼ oz, (note: five Gold fills an egg cup) |

Silver |
valued by weight – 1 unit of Silver is ¼ oz, (note: five Silver fills an egg cup). |

'Blue' |
(technically called ‘Balthorium’ this term is not in common usage and most people simply call it ‘Blue’) - each nugget of blue crystal is worth one irrespective of size. |

Crystal |
each piece of white Crystal is worth one irrespective of size. |

Unobtainium |
a rare ore, usually found processed into diamond shaped thin ingots. |

There are also two other important Ores which currently no mines produce and the only way to obtain these is to salvage them from ancient and/or redundant artifacts. These ores have unusual properties which are not yet fully understood and whose mysteries may yet reveal the history, and destiny, of Mars!
Martian Technology |
(the ore is technically called ‘Galvorn’ but this term is not in common usage). The salvaged ore usually takes the form of a brown disc shape. |
|
Egyptian Archaeology |
(the ore is technically called ‘Feldon’ but this term is not in common usage). The salvaged ore usually takes the form of a Scarab beetle. |
